This one is a memory drawing. The SEwards view from the MacArthur bridge, on the way down to Lake Merritt. I pass it a couple times a week. The city buildings in the background should be much closer/bigger, the road on the right side more pronounced, more variation in the buildings. If I cared about accuracy.

As it is, I mark it as my starting point of drawing interesting landscapes. =3

Under the cut there's a couple drawings I did a couple saturdays ago outside my clients' house, nothing fancy.

I'm doing art. Kind of.

I want to start drawing cities, but I don't have the visual vocabulary for it yet.

I'm looking at Sirron Norris.
More than looking, I just did a copy of a small city landscape he did.

I like the way his lines have so much energy. The looseness makes the hard edges and rigid lines of the city seem to breathe, expand.

I was tracing his lines and realized pretty quickly I was being too stiff, trying too hard to match up his lines exactly. I quickly started focusing on drawing the lines with more energy, more confidence. It's nowhere near perfect, but I started having more fun with it and learning more quickly almost immediately.

Nothing fancy. Just a copy. Original is on left.
