Doctor Awesome! (completed commission)

crssafox commissioned this image of her husband's character, Doctor Awesome. I then proceeded to enjoy it entirely too much.

This is what I do, apparently. I tell myself these will be simple, quick, and then I go and get all super detailed with the first one.

Well, in any case, I'm still open to taking these kinds of little character portrait things. 15$ each or three of the same character for 40$. And... if they keep being this detailed the price will go up... so now's a good time to grab them. My paypal address is ideamutt (at) gmail.com.

So how about a post that's not about selling things?

It actually does feel really good to be making art with purpose, even simple things like these have been. I say art with purpose, what I mean is, I'm making art with intent to finish it. I think my art block over the past couple years has had a lot to do with the fact that having proven to myself that I could create epic pieces with in depth thought to composition and lighting and atmosphere and color and perspective and all of the things, I somehow decided that I had to do that every time. And being fairly ADD and impatient with things, I got to a point where I didn't want to even try.

I don't know that I'm past it yet, but it seems that the fact that I can now see it indicates that I'm on the right track.

I need to reteach myself that it can be fun. That it's supposed to be.

I'm sorry I went so long without making art.

I'd like you to know I'm not enjoying this very much.

isilbastet commissioned me for a portrait of his character, with the instruction to do whatever I wanted with it and have fun. Well, I saw Hitchhiker's Guide and Robot Transformation on his interests lists, and the two just seemed to go together so well... particularly with Isil's black and white color scheme.
