Workout (day zero)

I finally got around to trying out one of the p90x workout vids this morning. Yoga-X. I got a half an hour into the hour-and-a-half vid. Holy Crap.
Granted I probably could have done (a little) more if some factors were better aligned. I'm at work and had to pause about there to see if S was ready to get up. Also the space I was using wasn't exactly ideal, I kept having to scoot forward or bang my heel into a table. And I had failed to get out my towel beforehand and was dripping sweat all over the floor.
Even though I only got a third of the way through I felt really good afterward, despite some muscles trembling in my arms and shoulders. Definitely going to be coming back to it.
I knew yoga was a workout, but I didn't expect to be sweating so profusely so quickly, either!

I'm going to start really pushing myself to work out on a very regular basis. I weighed in the other day at 168. Which I'd be very happy with if more of it was muscle. I'm pretty sure I've got some decent muscles going in my legs from biking, but even that I haven't been doing as much of since quitting the job with V because that cut out a good 18 miles a week worth of biking to Berkeley and back. Now most of the biking I do is up some pretty intense hills, which makes it a lot more effort and a lot less enjoyable. >_<
One of the cool side-effects of going on T is my body will be very happy to drop fat and gain muscle. Even if I keep fairly sedentary I'll lose some fat, and some will shift from my upper legs and butt to my gut. But guys also have more muscle mass, so working out should really boost muscle gain and fat loss. Also if I'm not mistaken, during puberty the body tends to get set in a form that it likes to default to, so I'm kind of lucky that I get to reset that form the way I want it.
I don't know for sure, though, so I'm kind of anxious about it. I plan on keeping track as much as possible here on Dreamwidth/LJ.

on 2010-05-23 11:36 am (UTC)Almost all of the transboys I know in person gained (fat) weight when they started taking T and became quite the chubby even when they weren't. This is especially true as you start getting really hungry when you develop muscle mass, so it goes really bad if you don't eat properly. But as long as you exercise and, above all, keep a healthy diet in spite of the hunger, things should be alright. I personally didn't gain any fat, but that's because I can't put on weight in the first place (I burn everything!).

on 2010-05-23 01:40 pm (UTC)I don't expect it to be a magic ticket to where I want to be, which is why I want to get started exercising now and build good habits for myself. I do know a lot less about maintaining a healthy diet than i'd like, though, and with the increased needs of both going on t and starting up exercise habits, I suppose that's something I need to start researching.
Thanks so much for your comments and support. I know I probably say a lot that just makes you go huh? But i'd rather say it and get corrected than not say, you know? :)

on 2010-05-23 04:47 pm (UTC)There IS a lot of contradictory information out there, because it's true it's different for everyone. :) But one has to take everything with a grain of salt because there's also a lot of folklore going around regarding hormones, including people who make account of their transition and aren't very realistic about it (like people going "OMG my voie is dropping!" after 1 week of T).
I've seen a lot of people transition for the past 5 years - people I know IRL, either friends or aquaintances - so I think I have a decent idea of myth VS reality, but of course everybody differs so you never know.
I know next to nothing about how to keep a healthy diet in the US, I just know it's harder to find good products there than in France, so... good luck with that.
