local landscapes
Jun. 8th, 2010 10:28 amDrawerins from last wednesday and last night

A lot of the initial sketching for this one was done from life- all the background elements were roughed in, and most of Edwin's pose was referenced while he was sitting there. I did the clean up and detail work indoors later that evening, though. San Francisco has some really amazing perspective challenges to play with, I want to do more drawings from life around there.

This one was done last night, completely from my head. (uhh, with exception of the cars, which were reffed from cars parked on the street. Works for the one closer to the foreground, but the hatchback is in completely the wrong perspective.) >:E First serious attempt at drawing my/any bike, too, and without reference, either. The perspective there is wonky, as is the pose, but I can't complain because I'm really happy with the overall effect of the pic.
It's a specific location, on my way to work, so I pass it a couple times a week. It's the same view as in this memory drawing. I feel like this time I got a more accurate representation of the view, but there's still a lot I like about the first one. That initial memory sketch is actually what made me start realizing that drawings with local landscapes are something I can REALLY enjoy. I don't think I'd be doing these drawings now if I hadn't enjoyed that first drawing so much.
As a side note, there are no 'mood' options here for awesome, great, or fantastic.
